Great effort in league loss

The Whitman-Hanson girls basketball team lost a league battle to Duxbury 50-44. The Panthers are now 9-6, 6-3 in the league. Leading the way for the Panthers was Brittney Porter with 14 points. MacKenzie Hatfield added 10 points. The defensive effort on Duxbury's leading scorer was Michela North was outstanding as she was held to 14 points.  The team played extremely hard.  Duxbury's first quarter 9-0 run to close out the first quarter ended up being the decisive spurt in the game as the Panthers were unable to climb back.

Another big league game is at home on Friday when the Panthers host the Hingham Harborwomen.  The Panthers won the first meeting in a close 34-30 game.

Panthers topple Titans

The Whitman-Hanson (9-5, 6-2 Patriot) girls basketball team defeated Pembroke 49-33. The Panthers were led by sophomore forward Abby Trapp with 10 points. Senior guard MacKenzie Hatfield added 9 points.

The girls will host Duxbury on Tuesday 1/31 in a Keenan division showdown for first place in the league. Both teams currently have 2 league losses. Come cheer on the girls in this important league contest!

Panthers win rematch with Bulldogs

The Whitman-Hanson girls basketball team defeated Rockland 52-34. Leading the way for the Panthers was senior guard MacKenzie Hatfield with 11 points, 10 assists. Senior guard Cassie Chernicki was also in double figures with 10.  The Panthers led by 15 after the first quarter and never looked back.  The team now stands at 8-5.

The girls will be playing at Pembroke Friday night.

Girls play hard but come up short

The Whitman-Hanson girls basketball team lost at North Quincy by the final score 57-44.  The Panthers were led by MacKenzie Hatfield with 16 points. Cassie Chernicki added 11 and Brittney Porter chipped in with 10.

The Panthers will be back at home on Thursday for the rematch with Rockland.  The Bulldogs beat the Panthers in the previous meeting over the holiday break.

Panthers first league loss

The Whitman-Hanson girls basketball team lost to the Scituate Sailors 67-33.  Sophomore Marina Kelly led the Panthers with 8 points.  Cassie Chernicki scored 6 points (two 3-pointers) while Brittany Arouca, Chrysta Slayton, and Brittney Porter each added 4 points.  The team now stands at 7-4, 5-1 in the Patriot League.

The Panthers travel to North Quincy on Monday for an important Keenan division Patriot League game.

Overtime Win

The Whitman-Hanson girls basketball team (7-3, 5-0 Patriot) defeated Bridgewater-Raynham 41-35 in overtime. The Panthers were led by Brittney Porter's 9 points (6 in OT). Marina Kelly added 7 while fellow sophomore Abby Trapp added 6 with 4-4 free throws in OT.

The team will be back in action on Friday in a huge league contest when the Scituate Sailors come to town.  Both teams are currently undefeated in the Patriot League.

Tough loss down the Cape

The Whitman-Hanson girls basketball team lost to Sandwich yesterday afternoon by the final score 52-50. Senior guards Cassie Chernicki and MacKenzie Hatfield led the Panthers with 13 points. Senior forward Brittney Porter added 10.  The game was tied at 23 at halftime and the Panthers fought back hard from a 16-point deficit in the late 3rd quarter/early 4th quarter to get a shot at the end to tie the game.  But the ball hit the backboard and rim but wouldn't fall.

The team is now 6-3, 5-0 in the Patriot League.  Next game is Monday afternoon in a girls/boys double header at Bridgewater-Raynham.  Girls game is scheduled for 5pm.
